About Helen

Helen English is a prolific artist with a love of figurative work and the natural world.

Helen was born in the UK and has been drawn to make art for as long as she can remember. Her early career in post-production opened the door to international opportunities, eventually bringing her to Aotearoa.

Whilst continuing her studio practice, she completed a Master of Visual Arts Education at the University of Waikato.  She then furthered her art practice through training with the Milan Art Institute, blending classical techniques with contemporary vision.

Helen’s work is grounded in the spirit of exploration. She paints women as seekers—navigators of the natural world—who engage with their surroundings through

intuition, curiosity, and wonder. Her paintings do not offer fixed answers but instead invite the spirit of discovery. With a style that shifts between realism, expressionism and abstraction, Helen draws viewers to encounter something both intimate and expansive, anchored in the familiar yet drawn toward what lies just beyond.

Helen is focused on continuing to work from her home studio near Lake Rotorua, building a strong portfolio that deepens her vision of exploration through her mediums of acrylic, collage, and oils, and her enjoyment of women's interaction with nature's story...
